Big Little Blessings: Noticing the Gifts We Often Miss

We live in a world that’s always chasing the “big” things — big wins, big answers, big breakthroughs – I know I have been guilty of it. But lately, God has been showing me the quiet beauty of what I like to call Big Little Blessings.

They’re the small, everyday moments that carry deep meaning. The kind of blessings that don’t make headlines, but make life rich with grace. They don’t shout — they whisper. And unless we pause long enough to notice them, they can slip by unnoticed – and BOY, have I been so caught up in the stresses of life sometimes that I have let them go unnoticed, but I am really trying to change that.

So, what are Big Little Blessings?

They’re the gifts we walk past every day. The kindness of a stranger. A warm cup of coffee on a hard morning. The feeling of sunlight on your face after a long week of rain. A scripture that meets you right where you are. The sound of laughter in a room filled with love. The peace that somehow shows up in the middle of the storm.

They may be “little” in size — but they’re big in impact.

Big Little Blessings are God’s gentle reminders that He is near. That He sees. That He cares.

And when we slow down and really look, we start to notice that they’re everywhere.

Unnoticed Blessings — Until We See Them

So many of God’s blessings come quietly, without fanfare. We don’t always recognize them as blessings in the moment — but they are:

  • Waking up to a new day full of possibility.
  • Having a place to call home.
  • Clean water and food to eat – I can often undervalue this one.
  • The ability to think, move, speak, create.
  • A moment of quiet in a chaotic day.
  • A friend who checks in.
  • A softening heart.
  • The lessons learned through pain – that’s a tough one.
  • Peace in your spirit when things don’t make sense.
  • The strength to keep going when you feel overwhelmed, broken, beat down, and TIRED.
  • Forgiveness — from others, and from the God, and – with God’s help – from Yourself.

These are holy, sacred gifts disguised as everyday life. And often, it’s only in hindsight — or in stillness — that we realize how deeply we’ve been blessed.

Why Noticing Matters

When we begin to recognize Big Little Blessings, we cultivate a heart of gratitude. We become more present. More aware. More rooted in God’s faithfulness.

It shifts our perspective — from lack to abundance, from hurry to peace, from striving to rest.

And maybe that’s the whole point.
Not just to count blessings, but to truly see them.

So today, I invite you to slow down. To look around.
To thank God not just for the mountains He moves, but for the tiny flowers blooming at your feet.

Because sometimes the greatest miracles are the ones quietly unfolding in the background.
